    How the course works

The course blends learning activities, such as short video input, eLearning module, realistic scenarios, reflective prompts and short knowledge checks. It closes with a competency checklist to be completed by a manager or team lead, followed by a personal action plan so each learner leaves with concrete changes to make in their own practice.

    Who it's for

Care and support staff, senior care workers, team leaders, and anyone in health or social care who supports people living with dementia. No prior clinical knowledge needed.

    Outcomes

By the end, learners can recognise the signs of dementia and related conditions, communicate in a way that reduces confusion and builds trust, de-escalate and prevent distress, and deliver safe, respectful, person-centred care in any setting — aligned with NICE NG97, CQC Regulation 9, the Mental Capacity Act, and SCIE's person-centred care principles.

    You will learn:

    • Dementia overview
    • Types of dementia
    • The symptoms of dementia
